Dr. John Gammichia has been pushing the envelope in adhesion dentistry since 1995, when his passion for the field was sparked by watching the original “bondodontist,” Ray Bertolotti. He has developed innovative techniques that have made it possible to restore teeth with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. In the case of a molar with a mesial-occlusal-distal amalgam that has lost its lingual cusp, Gammichia invites you to keep an open mind and let him explain why a bonded composite restoration is the way to go. This type of restoration is less expensive than an onlay or crown and can be done in a single visit. Bonded composite restorations are also very durable and can last for many years.
If patients cannot afford “ideal” dentistry, what should dentists do? Extract the teeth? In this lecture, you will see 1–4 cusp posterior composite restorations that are beautiful, cost-effective and long-lasting. You will see countless before-and-after photos of cases that you never thought were possible, as well as 5-, 10- and 15-year postoperative photos that will blow your mind.
Gammichia will walk you through the process of doing dentistry, including understanding adhesion and the products used, and then provide the audience with a step-by-step technique that you can use on Monday when you return to the office. If you haven’t noticed, Gammichia is enthusiastic about conservative dentistry and is eager to teach his audience about what to do before drilling into a tooth, as we are in a “caries crisis.” He will spend some time discussing the latest research on cariology—such as sealing noncavitated lesions and using silver diamine fluoride—and share other pearls from his many years of successful experience.
Learning Objectives:
Learn the techniques and science behind doing a composite restoration that is exquisite and will last for decades.
Demonstrate comfort in restoring (and knowing the science behind) a deep restoration.
Demonstrate comfort in restoring a 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-cusp posterior tooth with confidence that it will last for decades.
Be comfortable restoring a tooth that is large and deep and know the restoration will be profitable and last for decades.
